ABOUT DR. SCRUMBOB

Bob Schatz specializes in training, consulting, and coaching in the practice of successfully using agile project management techniques to transform organizations and improve the performance of their software development project teams. He is a long-time Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) with the Scrum Alliance. He began his practice as a result of leading the first large agile transition at Primavera Systems in 2002. Since then, he has helped many other companies do the same.

Bob has over 40 years of experience at every level of the organization. He was the VP and Chief Development Officer for Solstice Software, leading the development of one of the first SOA Automated Enterprise Integration Test tools on the market. Bob Schatz also served as the VP of Development for Primavera Systems, Inc. where he was responsible for leading the team that develops Primavera's software solutions for Enterprise Project and Portfolio Management. This is where the first large-scale agile success story was "written". Before joining Primavera, Bob spent 7 years at Liquent, Inc. leading the development of revolutionary publishing solutions targeted for the pharmaceutical market, and 12 years at GE Aerospace/Lockheed-Martin, where he held various technical and management positions for large-scale development projects for US government agencies and the Department of Defense. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Temple University, a Master's Degree in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctor of Management in Strategic Leadership degree from Thomas Jefferson University focused on the dynamics of Radical Transformational Change in organizations. Bob is an expert in successfully implementing agile development techniques such as Scrum, XP, and Kanban, and driving culture changes in organizations. He and his teams have been featured in a number of industry articles. Bob often speaks at industry events, talking about the benefits and challenges of bringing agile practices into an organization. He has a strong passion for creating great products and motivated teams.

ABOUT Derek Schatz

Derek Schatz is an Agile Coach who specializes in helping product development organizations effectively apply agile practices in a pragmatic, common sense approach. Derek focuses on improving transparency, communication, empowerment, and continuous improvement, guiding teams to deliver great products that their customers will love. He is a Certified Scrum Professional Scrum Master (CSP-SM), holds the PMI-ACP certification and also has experience in Lean, Scaled Agile Frameworks, and Kanban.

Derek has more than 8 years of experience as an Agile Coach, Scrum Master, and Quality Assurance Engineer. He has coached teams and executives to successfully deliver innovative new products in highly complex environments. He is currently engaged with International SOS, helping the teams and organizations drive value to their global client base. Prior to this, Derek worked at Comcast in Philadelphia. In his time with Comcast, he saw his group’s product grow from 800K to over 2M customers. Derek worked with multiple teams at Xfinity Mobile and also led a Continuous Improvement Group to identify and resolve impediments across the engineering organization. He also organized and led an Agile Center of Excellence that generated participation from Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Engineers across all of Comcast. Prior to Comcast, Derek worked for Sungard Availability Services where he was a Quality Assurance Engineer, and a Scrum Master, on a Disaster Recovery SaaS product. While at Sungard, he was able to play a major role in developing and increasing the coverage of test automation suites. Derek has a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from West Chester University, an MBA from Philadelphia University, and is currently pursuing his Masters of Science in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Derek has deep knowledge across various Agile Frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, Lean, SAFe, Scrum@Scale and LeSS. He is driven by the mission to help organizations successfully apply Agile practices to enable them to serve their customers in the best possible way and create a vibrant learning culture for the great people in the organization. His experience in leadership and teamwork enables him to drive effective change throughout the organization. He is a natural people leader who will raise the level of any organization, creating the discipline, adaptability, and professionalism to improve how they develop and deliver products.
